In April 1996 the rudder was replaced with a new design.
In this photo, the original fin rudder (to the right) seems to only have minor damage on its point.
Perhaps the change was intended to improve low-speed maneuverability, particularly whilst going astern.
It would be interested to have had the designer Richard Carlson's view of this "fashion accessory".
